Phasmatodea - stick insects
O. Mantodea, O. Phasmatodea, O. Blattodea - Mantids, Stick & Leaf Insects, Roaches
The order Mantodea, mantids, have elongated bodies and raptorial front legs adapted for a predatory lifestyle. The order Phasmatodea consists of the walking sticks and leaf insects. They are slow moving and cryptic. Most have reduced wings. Cockroaches are in the order Blattodea and have an oval shaped body. The mantids and roaches are unique in producing an ootheca capsule to contain their eggs. All three orders were previously placed with the Orthoptera.
